“ERB Ensures Sufficient Fuel Reserves Amid Localized Shortages in Zambia”

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has confirmed that Zambia currently has ample petroleum reserves to address recent fuel shortages seen in certain regions of the country.

The ERB identified logistical challenges in cross-border fuel transport as the main cause of these localized shortages. To alleviate the issue, the ERB has temporarily lifted certain movement restrictions on Petroleum Road Tank Vehicles, allowing for faster deliveries and reducing supply disruptions.

ERB Director General, Elijah Sichone, reported that Zambia holds 35.8 million liters of diesel and 8.9 million liters of petrol, sufficient to meet the country’s immediate fuel needs in the coming days.

To ensure smooth fuel distribution, the ERB has strengthened its partnership with Oil Marketing Companies, focusing on prompt fuel deliveries across all areas. Recent inspections of 612 filling stations revealed that 423 had both petrol and diesel, 138 had one or the other, while 51 stations had neither fuel available. The ERB continues to work toward maintaining a stable and reliable fuel supply nationwide.
