Zambia’s Venture into Car Battery Manufacturing Set to Boost Economic Growth

Zambia is on the cusp of a significant milestone as it prepares to inaugurate its car battery production by the end of July this year, buoyed by the arrival of crucial manufacturing equipment.

During a recent inspection of the Jiangxi Multi Facility Economic Zone in Chibombo district, General Manager Xu Jianfeng delineated the forthcoming two-month period dedicated to equipment testing and finalizing the plant before commencing full-scale production.

In its initial phase, the facility aims to manufacture 400,000 batteries, with plans to double its production capacity once it reaches full operational status.

Having already secured nine investment agreements, totaling over $100 million, the facility foresees the creation of 1,500 job opportunities.

These investments span various sectors, encompassing cigarette manufacturing, transformer assembly, quarry crushing, and electricity cable production. Additionally, the facility expects to receive additional equipment from Jiangxi Copper on-site next month.

Commerce, Trade, and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga emphasized the criticality of delivering high-quality, affordable products that cater to the needs of local communities. He urged investors to prioritize accessibility for local consumers, underlining the importance of meeting the demands of the domestic market.
