Strong recovery, steady performance, and rising confidence in Africa’s leading tin producer
Alphamin Resources, the JSE-listed tin producer operating in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has reported a sharp rebound in production for the third quarter of 2025 — a clear sign of resilience amid regional challenges.
The company delivered 5,190 tonnes of contained tin during Q3, marking a 26% jump from the previous quarter’s 4,106 tonnes. The surge follows a return to full operations after a temporary suspension earlier this year linked to security disruptions in North Kivu province.
Mining activities resumed steadily from mid-April, setting the stage for what Alphamin described as a “solid recovery” in both mining and processing output. Plant performance remained stable, with recoveries averaging 76%, just shy of the 77% achieved in Q2.
Revised Guidance and Strong Sales
Building on the rebound, Alphamin now expects to maintain production momentum through year-end. The company forecasts around 5,000 tonnes of contained tin in Q4, which would push 2025 output beyond its original 17,500-tonne target.
With 13,566 tonnes already produced in the first nine months, Alphamin has upgraded its annual guidance to between 18,000 and 18,500 tonnes — a strong signal of operational confidence.
Contained tin sales also improved, climbing 12% quarter-on-quarter to 5,143 tonnes, supported by steady demand and logistical efficiency.
Security Still a Watchpoint
Despite the operational gains, Alphamin continues to monitor heightened security tensions between Massisi and Walikale territories, roughly 200 km from its Bisie tin mine. While operations remain unaffected, the company cautioned that the regional risk profile remains elevated and could impact future activity if unrest moves closer to its area of operation.
“We continue to operate within guidance parameters,” Alphamin noted, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining safety and stability across its operations.
Resilience in a Volatile Region
Even with ongoing challenges, Alphamin has reinforced its reputation as one of the world’s highest-grade tin producers, playing a critical role in global tin supply. Its consistent performance highlights both the potential and complexity of mining in Central Africa — where operational excellence often goes hand-in-hand with navigating uncertainty.
