DR Congo Accelerates Road Works Ahead of Rainy Season, Says PM Judith Suminwa

Kinshasa, DR Congo — Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka has reiterated her government’s determination to fast-track the completion of road infrastructure projects across the Democratic Republic of Congo before the rainy season begins.

Speaking during the 57th Council of Ministers meeting in Kinshasa, the Prime Minister reminded cabinet members of the key recommendations drawn from a high-level session held the previous day at her office. The session brought together the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Kinshasa’s provincial infrastructure minister, and technical departments to assess the current state of ongoing works.

To strengthen oversight, officials developed and distributed a detailed map showing all active road construction projects. This monitoring tool is expected to improve accountability and enable real-time evaluation of progress.

Prime Minister Suminwa directed that thorough on-site inspections be conducted across all project sites and stressed the importance of minimizing traffic disruptions during construction. She also urged Kinshasa residents to remain patient and place their trust in the government’s efforts to deliver safer, more reliable roads.

“These efforts are crucial to ensure safe and functional roads before heavy rains begin,” she emphasized.

The renewed focus on road development forms part of a broader national strategy aimed at improving mobility, reducing risks posed by seasonal flooding, and boosting economic activity across the DRC.
