During an official visit to Paris, Deputy Minister of Mines Godard Motemona represented the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the 18th OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains.
Addressing fellow African mining ministers and global stakeholders, Motemona reaffirmed the DRC’s commitment—under the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi and Prime Minister Judith Suminwa—to advancing responsible mining practices and contributing to the global energy transition as a key supplier of strategic minerals.
He highlighted the country’s vast mineral wealth and called for greater local processing, enhanced mineral certification, and the formalization of artisanal mining to promote sustainability and equitable growth.
Motemona also emphasized the DRC’s continued participation in international efforts to ensure ethical mineral sourcing, even as the nation contends with persistent security challenges in the eastern provinces.
He concluded by echoing President Tshisekedi’s call for peace and stability, expressing optimism that current initiatives will lead to meaningful, long-term progress for the DRC and its people.
