Zambian Parliamentary Committee Visits FQM Mines to Evaluate Economic Contribution

The Zambian Parliamentary Committee on National Economy, Trade, and Labour Matters has conducted an oversight tour of First Quantum Minerals’ (FQM) Kansanshi Mining PLC and FQM Trident operations in the North-Western Province.

The visit formed part of the committee’s mandate to monitor key national investments and better understand their impact on Zambia’s economic development.

Led by Honourable Sibeso Sefulo, Member of Parliament for Mwandi Constituency, the delegation engaged directly with FQM leadership to gain in-depth knowledge of the company’s mining activities, investment scale, and broader contributions to national growth.

The committee was welcomed by Mr. Axel Kottgen, Assistant General Manager of Kansanshi Mining PLC, who provided a comprehensive overview of operations. His presentation highlighted production metrics, workforce training, support for local suppliers, infrastructure development, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Following the briefing, the committee toured the mine’s key operational zones, guided by Mr. Ryan Ellis, Kansanshi’s Corporate Affairs Superintendent. During the visit, members observed advanced mining technologies, robust environmental management systems, and FQM’s strong focus on safety and sustainable practices.

The tour offered lawmakers valuable insights into the mining sector’s role in national development and underscored the importance of continued collaboration between government and private sector stakeholders.
