Construction is now underway on Zambia’s first two Gold Mining Centers in the Rufunsa and Mumbwa districts, with a completion goal set for the end of the year. These new centers are part of a bold government strategy to elevate Zambia’s gold mining industry, improve resource management, and empower local communities.
Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe announced that Zamgold Limited has been appointed as the official gold aggregator for the initiative. This role will see Zamgold responsible for buying gold from the newly formalized mining markets, aiming to streamline the gold trade and encourage lawful transactions.
Addressing the National Assembly, Mr. Kabuswe emphasized that these mining centers mark a crucial step toward reducing illegal mining, protecting valuable resources, and ensuring that profits from gold extraction contribute to Zambia’s economic development. By establishing these centers, the government is laying the groundwork for a more sustainable and transparent gold sector, while also creating new opportunities for local miners to thrive within a regulated industry.
This pioneering project represents Zambia’s commitment to advancing its mineral sector, positioning the nation for growth, and setting an example of resource management and community-driven development.
