Lobito Atlantic Railway Transports 15,000 Tons of Sulphur to DRC, Boosting Copperbelt Supply Chain

The Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) has successfully transported 15,000 tonnes of sulphur to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), marking another milestone in strengthening logistics for Africa’s mining sector.

The ANEMON vessel recently docked at the Lobito Mining Terminal (TMPL), where the shipment was unloaded and seamlessly transferred onto the Benguela Railway for transport to Kolwezi in the DRC.

This latest delivery brings LAR’s total sulphur transport volumes to more than 36,000 tonnes, reinforcing its position as a reliable and growing logistics partner for the Copperbelt region. Sulphur is a critical input in copper production, and the improved supply chain via Lobito is helping reduce costs and transit times for mining companies in central Africa.

The operation was carried out in partnership with TradeVis, underscoring the importance of private-sector collaboration in enhancing cross-border trade. By linking the Atlantic coast directly to the DRC and Zambia’s Copperbelt, the Lobito Corridor is becoming a strategic lifeline for regional economic growth and industrial development.

With demand for efficient and sustainable mining logistics on the rise, LAR’s integrated port and rail operations are positioning Lobito as a competitive alternative to traditional southern routes, boosting trade resilience and opening new opportunities for investment across the region.
