Kalumbila Minerals Hands Over Health Posts To Govt

Kalumbila Minerals Limited (KML), a subsidiary of mining giant First Quantum Minerals (FQM), has handed over three new health posts in Kalumbila district to the government.

The facilities handed over include a staff house, clinic, incinerator and ablution block at each health post, complete with the much-needed medical equipment.

Company Assistant General Manager Junior Keyser said the projects are an effort in response to the needs of communities.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Keyser said the donation of the three health posts illustrates FQM’s strong commitment and unwavering support to the welfare and wellbeing of communities around its mining operations in Zambia.

“This is another illustration of FQM’s authentic support to the community, and the genuineness being shown is really unique. We are working on a number of fronts to support healthcare provision in the province; bolster community health and hygiene responses, and to provide relief to the most vulnerable in society,” he added.

Keyser disclosed that government had assigned health workers to be stationed at the facilities and were set to report this week.

FQM has spent more than US$100 million on its sustainability and community development programmes by aligning its Kansanshi and Trident foundations’ programmes to Zambia’s Seventh National Development Plan.

“Our wish is that our various contributions provide rapid and targeted actions to support the healthcare sector in efforts to flatten the curve of infections and provide humanitarian support to vulnerable households and communities,” said Keyser.
