LUSAKA, Zambia – June 24, 2025 — Godwin Beene, Country Manager for First Quantum Minerals (FQM) in Zambia, is set to join the speaker lineup at the upcoming African Mining Week (AMW) 2025, Africa’s flagship event for the mining sector.
Beene will participate in a high-level panel titled “Zambia: Accelerating Exploration and Development Through License Allocation and Global Partnerships.” The session will spotlight Zambia’s renewed focus on mining sector growth and investment, and Beene is expected to provide key insights into First Quantum’s strategic role in supporting these national objectives.
His participation comes at a pivotal time as Zambia ramps up efforts to attract foreign investment and boost copper output to three million tonnes annually by 2031. As one of Zambia’s largest mining operators, First Quantum Minerals is a central figure in advancing this ambition.
AMW 2025, held in Cape Town from October 1–3, will run alongside African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025. Together, the two conferences offer a powerful platform for industry engagement, networking, and deal-making across the mining and energy value chains.
Advancing Zambia’s Mining Future
First Quantum Minerals continues to make major strides across its Zambian operations:
- Kansanshi Mine produced 46,544 tonnes of copper in Q1 2025, with a full-year target of 190,000 tonnes of copper and 110,000 ounces of gold.
- The Kansanshi S3 Expansion Project, slated to begin production this year, includes a new processing plant, expanded mining fleet and smelter, and development of the South East Dome pit—extending the mine’s life through 2040.
- Sentinel Mine reported 46,361 tonnes of copper output in Q1 2025, targeting 230,000 tonnes for the year.
- At the Enterprise Nickel Mine, located near Sentinel, the company produced 4,649 tonnes of nickel in Q1 2025, a 25% increase over the previous quarter. Annual production is projected to reach 25,000 tonnes, with a focus on ore grade and process optimization.
Beene’s presence at AMW will highlight these operational achievements and position First Quantum as a key contributor to Zambia’s mining-led economic growth. His session also provides an opportunity for FQM to connect with potential investors, global partners, and service providers aligned with its long-term vision.
Shaping the Future of African Mining
Held under the theme “From Extraction to Beneficiation: Unlocking Africa’s Mineral Wealth,” AMW 2025 aims to drive exploration, foster cross-border partnerships, and promote sustainable development across Africa’s mining sector.
The Zambia-focused session will bring together industry leaders, government officials, financiers, and technology innovators to discuss regulatory reform, investment opportunities, and strategies for expanding local value addition.
