Kizito Pakabomba, the Congolese Minister of Mines, dismissed the proposal to create a separate financial authority for the mining sector during a press café in Kinshasa, organized by the mining registry.
Pakabomba contended that forming another agency would introduce unnecessary bureaucracy, citing concerns from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the country’s budgetary inefficiencies. He emphasized that the mining sector already contributes nearly 50% to the national budget and that the Ministry of Finance effectively manages mining revenues. The minister also reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the IMF to secure additional financing for the country’s development.
