A Carter Center delegation, led by President and CEO Ms. Paige Alexander, visited the MMG Kinsevere mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo on November 7, 2025, to assess ongoing community and environmental programs. The group was received by Mr. Yi Chen, General Manager of MMG Kinsevere.
The visit focused on mining innovation, community development, and environmental management. The delegation toured the mine’s facilities, including the RGA plant, one of Central Africa’s most advanced copper processing sites, and reviewed investments in local copper processing and operational efficiency.
Community Engagement in Kifita Village
In the afternoon, the delegation visited Kifita Village, one of 26 riverside communities near Kinsevere. They interacted with students from the Kifita Institute and met with Local Development Committees (LDCs) and traditional leaders from Kasongo and Shindaika.
Since 2020, The Carter Center has supported these local structures in defining Project Specifications that prioritize health, education, agriculture, water, and infrastructure initiatives. Monitoring Committees ensure community involvement and transparency in implementation.
Progress and Outlook
The 2020–2025 MMG Kinsevere Project Specification—now over 85% implemented—has achieved notable progress despite challenges. The visit provided valuable insights into project outcomes and reinforced collaboration between MMG Kinsevere, The Carter Center, and local communities as planning begins for the next development cycle.
