Zambia’s Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has introduced the Zambia Integrated Mining Information System (ZIMIS), a state-of-the-art digital platform designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in mining license management.
Replacing the previous Cadastre System, ZIMIS aims to streamline the issuance of mining rights, directly aligning with Zambia’s goal of achieving 3.1 million tons of annual copper production by 2031.
As part of the government’s compliance monitoring efforts, ZIMIS will also facilitate the repossession of over 1,000 non-compliant mining licenses from 2024, with plans to reallocate these in 2025—creating new opportunities for exploration and development.
The system’s launch follows a 79% surge in mining licenses granted in 2024, reflecting Zambia’s commitment to expanding and modernizing its mining sector.
