President Hakainde Hichilema has completed a fruitful working visit to Japan, aimed at attracting investment to spur Zambia’s economic growth and enhance the well-being of its citizens.

The visit included a key meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and participation in a business forum showcasing Zambia’s investment potential.

In his discussions with Prime Minister Ishiba, President Hichilema reiterated Zambia’s long-standing diplomatic relationship with Japan, underscoring both nations’ commitment to expanding trade and investment opportunities.

Both leaders agreed to build on existing agreements, including the policy dialogue mechanism and the investment promotion and protection agreement.

“We firmly believe that Zambia is the ideal destination for Japanese investment, which will contribute to growing our economy and improving the lives of Zambians. We are eager to strengthen our partnership with Japan,” President Hichilema stated.

The President expressed gratitude for Japan’s continued support in vital sectors such as mining, agriculture, and infrastructure, stressing the importance of ongoing dialogue to further enhance cooperation.

As Zambia’s Chief Marketing Officer, President Hichilema also attended the Zambia Business Forum in Tokyo, where he addressed over 100 Japanese companies.

He highlighted Zambia’s abundant natural resources, political stability, and investment-friendly environment, encouraging Japanese businesses to explore opportunities in copper, critical minerals, and energy—key sectors vital to Zambia’s goal of reaching 3 million tonnes of annual copper production.

Reassuring investors of his government’s commitment to removing obstacles to Japanese investment, President Hichilema emphasized the creation of a business-friendly atmosphere.

His visit has solidified Zambia’s position as a prime investment destination, laying the foundation for an even stronger economic partnership with Japan focused on sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
