Glencore Reveals It Turned Down Offer for Its DRC Operations Last Year

Global mining giant Glencore has confirmed that it turned down an unsolicited offer for its Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) operations at the end of last year.

Despite industry speculation, the company made it clear that it is not actively seeking buyers for its DRC assets.

“Glencore has not engaged any banks or advisors and is not running a sale process for its operations in the DRC,” a spokesperson stated.

The move underscores Glencore’s commitment to its presence in the DRC, a country rich in copper and cobalt, key materials for the global energy transition. With demand for these critical minerals surging, Glencore’s assets in the region remain highly valuable.

While the identity of the potential buyer remains undisclosed, the rejected bid signals strong interest in DRC’s vast mining potential. Whether Glencore will reconsider its stance in the future remains to be seen, but for now, it appears the company is staying the course.
