China State Construction Engineering, a state-owned enterprise, has committed to supporting the Kinshasa city expansion project. This pledge was made during a meeting between Governor Daniel Bumba and a company delegation on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Hilton Hotel.
The urbanization initiative aims to ease congestion in the Congolese capital while significantly addressing traffic and sanitation challenges. The project will allocate 486 square kilometers for the development of a new city, accounting for about 5% of Kinshasa’s total area.
Kinshasa authorities chose China State Construction Engineering for its extensive global experience. The company has a solid track record, notably in Algeria, where it has successfully completed various projects, including the construction of 43,000 housing units across 11 regions.
Moreover, China State Construction has played a vital role in significant infrastructure developments in Algeria, such as the new university city of Constantine, the international terminal at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers, and the expansion of National Road No. 1, which includes 17 kilometers of bridges and 3 kilometers of tunnels.
